Tahoe Rim Trail, I'm Done!

Here's a nice view looking South on the Brockway to Tahoe Meadows section.  This was my last section to complete on the Rim Trail.  I hiked from Echo Lakes clockwise around the west side, to the Northeast corner of the lake, in Nevada, at Hwy 431 near Mt. Rose (Tahoe Meadows).  89 miles, 6-days, 3 wilderness areas, 2 bear encounters, and no blisters.  Just returned home from a beautiful hike that completed my loop on the Tahoe Rim Trail.  165 miles total.  What's next?  Why, the JMT in '09 of course!

Eagle Scout Project

Members of our Boy Scout Troop spent a day in a field south of Davis working on an Eagle Scout project for Dan.  It took many hours, but we completed phase one of the project - placing the corner posts.  Dan is building a blind for duck hunting.  This blind will be controlled by Fish and Game and will be dedicated as a 'youth only' blind.  We will give the concrete a week to set, then return for phase two of the project - building the decking and super-structure.

Syrah Harvest

The last of the grapes are off.  I just had to do another jig as the fruit went out our gate.  The merlot harvest went quickly Monday, about 5 hrs. to pick the 9 acres.  The Syrah went smoothly as well.  And now I'm off to open a nice '06 I have been saving for this post harvest happy hour.

Northbound on the PCT

The PCT drops down into Meiss Meadow between Carson Pass (Hwy 88) and Echo Summit (Hwy 50).  The mosquitoes were out in force until it cooled off just before sunset.

Tahoe Rim Trail

Here's Joe on the TRT between Kingsbury North and Spooner Summit.  This section runs along an open ridgeline for a mile or so and has big views of the lake.  This view is looking west toward Emerald Bay and Mt. Tallac

Philmont

Joe and I have been doing some more hiking.  Our latest adventure was a twelve day backpacking trek at the Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, NM.  The Ranch was given to the Boy Scouts in 1938 by oil baron Waite Phillips.  Lots of history there, but suffice it to say it was a privilege to be at Philmont, and an experience that I will cherish.

Grace was said before every meal.

for food
for raiment
for life
for opportunity
for friendship and fellowship
we thank thee, O Lord - amen

Since I believe in the church of the great outdoors, this worked for me.

Here is Joe at Philmont's main gate.
